Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on grappling (or wrestling). BJJ was designed so that a smaller opponent could easily use leverage and technique to overcome a much larger opponent while taking minimal damage. Today BJJ is not only one the best and most practical martial arts to learn, it is also a popular sport that is practiced world wide.
Our Kids BJJ classes in Kingsport, TN are 1 hour long for children ages 7-13, and it focuses on teaching kids the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu all the way up to advanced techniques. Kids will learn how to follow and roll, move safely on the ground, and “tap out” as a safety measure to avoid getting hurt during training. We build upon this foundation of safety with core postures and control positions and safely teach kids how to perform throws and takedowns and how to apply submissions.
Many of our kids also compete at local and national BJJ tournaments to test their metal and build their determination. But competing isn’t the only benefit of BJJ for kids in Kingsport. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can also help kids learn how to persevere, ignore distractions, and build confidence.
Best of all, it’s a FUN way to keep kids active, healthy, and off the couch!
